Digital Humanities Student is recipient of Prestigious Simon Cumbers Media Fund Student Scheme

Congratulations to DH student Kathy O'Hare who has been awarded funding under the Simon Cumbers Media Fund Student Scheme.

The Scheme is designed to give students a greater understanding of development issues. It is open to all full- and part-time third-level students over the age of 18, who are enrolled in a third-level education institution in Ireland.

As part of their prize, the students will receive guidance and one-to-one mentoring from journalists within three of Ireland’s leading media organisations: The Irish TimesNewstalk and thejournal.ie. These media outlets will also publish the winners’ reports.

Kathy O’Hare, who is currently pursuing an MA in Digital Cultures atUniversity College Cork, will travel to Tanzania to examine the impact coral blasting has on the environment, tourism and employment in the country. She will be mentored by Newstalk producer, Susan Cahill.

Previously, Kathy has  already partnered in the setting up of Jungala Radio, in the Calais Refugee Camp, the digital aspect of her MA thesis.
